MHPC offers a range of group therapy and psycho-educational classes designed to boost and to practice applying knowledge related to the following range of the problems in a supportive group environment.
There is a difference between psycho-educational classes and therapy group in a way that classes are focused on learning and discussing material about specific psychological problems (such as eating, sleep problems, optimal performance, etc), while psychotherapy sessions are designed to provide space for practicing new knowledge and working through your internal problems in a safe and supportive group environment.
Psychoeducational classes:
We offer brief sets of psychoeducational classes, each consisting of 2 or 3 sessions, which are designed to provide understanding on the mechanisms of development of and the healing/treatment for the following range of problems:
- Anxiety and Depression
- Interpersonal, intimacy and relationships problems
- Living with psycho-physiological problems (also referred to as somatic or body-mind syndromes)
- Sleep problems
- Disordered eating
- Self care and internal capacity building
The classes usually run for 45 minutes and are followed by the group discussion, which will also cover some helpful practical tips for dealing with these problems.
You do not need to be currently in therapy to attend these classes, as these are not group therapy sessions in which you can talk about your internal struggles.
Psychoeducational classes are run for each topic when the topic receives an expression of interest from at least 8 people. If attending our psychoeducational classes interests you – please complete the contact form and indicate the topic(s) of you interest.
The price for a single session is 75$ and medicare rebate of 22$ for a single session may apply for up to 10 sessions.
Group psychotherapy:
We are currently welcoming expressions of interest from people who want to participate in fortnightly group therapy meetings which will aim at helping people to develop more interpersonal awareness and awareness of their own emotional and social triggers, practice self-regulation and effective communication and self-expression. Each session will run for approximately one hour and will have one topic to focus on.
We are looking at developing a group which is based on mutual support, care and safety and in order to ensure optimal experience for all participants a strict assessment and selection process will apply before any place in the group is offered to the right participant. Normally it is recommended that you have both individual and group therapy, or at least that you had experience working on internal problems in individual therapy before.
We expect that the group will commence in early December – but it is a subject to the number of people who successfully enrol into the group.
